Getting Over Pre-Interview Nerves
Interviews can be frightening and often make potential candidates shake with fear just by hearing the word “interview”. However, nerves do not necessarily have to be a bad thing. These jitters mean that you are eager and excited to possibly work with the company that you are interviewing for. Here are a few tips that will help you shake off those nerves and show the company that you are ready to be the best employee ever.
Practice. Practice. Practice.
Being prepared is one of the best ways to combat your anxieties. Grab a friend or family member and practice answering a few standard interview questions. Make sure that this person also tries to ask you questions specific to the position and scenario types of questions. Practice answering these questions multiple different times. The more you become familiar with the questions, the less you have to worry about the day of the interview because you already know what you want to say.
Do your Research
Make sure that you do your “homework” on the company. A company wants to know that you are interested in who they are and what their values are. Therefore, it is important to look at the company website and review the qualifications of the job description. You should make reference to the job description and website during the interview to show the interviewer that you are truly interested in the position.
Reality Check
Before you enter an interview, it is important to have a reality check with yourself. You don’t want it to seem like you are desperate or needy for the job. Remember that this is just one job and one opportunity, and it does not determine your whole future. Remind yourself that life will still go on if you do not get the job and this will calm your nerves tremendously!
Just Breathe
Breathe. It’s going to be okay! You might want to take a walk or do some yoga the morning of the interview. Moving your body will help improve your mental health and refocus your energy on rocking the interview instead of focusing on possibly doing poorly.
Relax and remember these tips; You totally got this!
