Public Speaking Tips
Research shows that people are more afraid of public speaking than dying. Isn’t that crazy? Public speaking is not everyone’s cup of tea because it can be extremely nerve-wracking speaking in front of a group of strangers, or even just a big group of friends. Your confidence levels change the more prepared you are for your presentation. Follow the below tips and rock your next presentation!
Practice
You can never practice too much. Practicing your speech over and over again will make you more confident and help your avoid words such as “um” and “like”. The more you practice, the more comfortable you’ll get with the material that you are presenting. It also helps practicing in front of a variety of audiences. Practice in front of your family members and even a small group of friends. This will definitely boost your confidence!
Know Your Audience
When preparing for a speech, it’s very important to know your audience and who you’re talking to. Knowing your audience will greatly shape the content you are preparing. You don’t want to bore your audience with information they already know, and you also don’t want to speak too vaguely about a topic that your audience knows nothing about. Understanding your audience also gives you the opportunity to throw in some humorous content and make your speech fun and entertaining!
Be Yourself
At the end of the day, you are yourself and not someone else. Don’t put on a fake front when public speaking because it is likely that your audience will catch on to your dishonesty. You’ll also feel more comfortable if you decide to be authentically yourself!
